Introduction and September Theme: Self (edited: 9/13/12)

I created these pages in Microsoft Word and Excel using Microsoft Clip art in most. Yesterday, when I created this blog, I tried copying and pasting the pages into the blog but the clip art didn't show. So I'm going to post links to the Acrobat version.

Now my background. I am certified to teach in NJ for P - 5 but would have to do alternate route. I passed the same test as Education Majors to get certified, the Praxis, but my Degree is in Dance with a Minor in Management. I taught dance to a wide variety of age groups including Preschool while in college. I also took education classes including one on Classroom Management. During college I worked at a teacher's store, Hammett's Learning World, that sold a lot of workbooks. I was the Assistant Manager after graduation for a year. During that time I looked at a lot of workbooks so I can make the best recommendations.

They went out of business in January of 2005. After that, I started tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center and Subbing in Elementary Schools. When Subbing wasn't the stepping stone to my own classroom I hoped, I stopped looking for a classroom of my own and stayed at Sylvan. While subbing, I subscribed to all eight magazines that The Mailbox puts out, The Mailbox and Teacher's Helper. Teacher's Helper is a worksheet magazine and it inspired me to do research and create monthly themed books with preschool skills.

I worked at Sylvan until December of 2008 when they were hit hard by the Recession. I was early in my pregnancy with my now three year old son at the time. I worked a couple of times after he was born in 2009 but they just didn't have the hours for me. Recently, I pulled out a workbook I used as a base for my research for my son to try. He started preschool at 2 1/2 in January and it was the day before he started school again, his birthday is in early June. That night I spent an hour in Barnes and Knobles looking at the three Preschool books they had. There were good ones but I kept thinking about how these are better. In each month you will come across each skill at least once. There wasn't any book as complete as that in the store. So I decided to create this blog. As a parent, I stay up to date on current National Standards.

Last September, I started these sheets with him and he liked them. The books are designed for ages 2 1/2 - 4. Not all pages will work for every age but in each theme has something for each age. I started these pages again with him yesterday and he LOVES them. He did two themes!!! I designed each book to be one page a day (it is Preschool) but he kept asking for more. It was nice bonding for us. We do a lot of other things together, he loves helping me in my garden and I encourage him to play a lot and explore the world around him. But this is a nice compliment to what Preschoolers are learning.

This is my other Blog. It's on a variety of topics.
